South32 GEMCO Wharf Recovery – Groote Eylandt
ENGCO provided critical FIFO Health and Safety Advisor support to the South32 GEMCO project team during the recovery and remediation works following the collapse of the Groote Eylandt export wharf caused by Tropical Cyclone Megan in 2024. The cyclone caused significant damage to key marine infrastructure supporting one of Australia’s largest manganese mining operations, requiring a major recovery effort to restore export capability.
ENGCO supported the safe delivery of complex marine remediation activities through onsite HSE leadership, risk management, contractor coordination, field inspections, and safety assurance across a challenging remote FIFO project environment.
Through dedicated resourcing and experienced safety personnel, ENGCO assisted the project team in maintaining strong safety outcomes throughout the recovery works, contributing to the successful completion of the wharf rebuild and the safe return of GEMCO’s export operations.
