ENGCO Supporting the Newport Level Crossing Removal Project

ENGCO is proud to support the delivery of the Newport Level Crossing Removal Project, a major infrastructure upgrade removing the Maddox Road and Champion Road level crossings through the construction of new rail bridges and improved community connections.

The project has delivered two new passenger rail bridges over Maddox Road, with works progressing on the final rail bridge to allow freight services to operate above the road in late 2026. Champion Road has now been permanently closed to vehicles at the rail corridor, with the extension of Akuna Drive and a new pedestrian and cycling bridge providing improved connectivity for the local community.

ENGCO has been engaged to provide project delivery support, working alongside the project team to assist with the safe and successful delivery of this complex rail infrastructure project. Once complete, the upgrade will create a boom gate-free Newport, improving safety, travel reliability and connectivity for the community.
